My Story and Background
On January 8, 2025, I suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in a snowboarding accident that changed the course of my life. I underwent a wide range of doctors, tests, and therapies. Despite my medical background, I found that medical professionals reacted to my headaches, dizziness, and cognitive changes, instead of being proactive. They dismissed my concerns at first, explaining that I would have a decrease or absence of these symptoms in three months. I soon discovered I needed to self-advocate for my own recovery and learned to stop listening to “the experts”, trust my intuition, and forge my own path.
I started writing as a therapeutic exercise. I have enjoyed learning and practicing this art. I’m trying out different things to figure out which genre I like to write best.
I am a Registered Nurse with 16 years of experience at the bedside of patients with traumatic experiences. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a certification for Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). Currently, I am working on publishing my first book, After the Fall: Overcoming TBI With Self-Advocacy and Acceptance. The book follows one year of my recovery, chronicling the physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges of living with TBI and the determination and methods required to reclaim my life.
